Contributory fault
Contributory fault comes under section 123(6) of the Employment Rights Act 1996. Where the Employment Tribunal finds that the dismissal was caused or contributed to by the actions of the employee, they can reduce the compensatory award by a just and equitable amount. This amount is usually assessed as a percentage reduction which may be as high as 100%.
