Employment tribunal costs can run into thousands of pounds. How do you find the money to pay for your Employment Tribunal claim?

  1. Apply for free Employment Law Advice and Representation (pro Bono)

  1. Sign a No win, No fee Agreement

These are also called “Damages Based Agreements”. The firm you use will charge you 35% of your total compensation. This only covers the cost of the Solicitor's advice and you will still have to find the money for a barrister to represent you at Employment Tribunal hearings.

  1. Use your Legal Expenses Insurance

You may have legal expenses insurance as part of your home or other insurance cover. If you do, your insurer will direct you to their panel solicitors. Sometimes, you may be able to instruct a solicitor of your choice. Your insurer will typically cover the costs of your claim if a barrister gives you at least 51% prospect of winning your claim.

  1. Do it yourself

You can handle your case by yourself as a litigant in person. The Employment Tribunal is set up for the 'man in the street' to be able to bring a claim, and there is no cost to lodge a claim.
